Parts of the northern tier are forecast to see their first accumulating snow of the season Friday night into the weekend. Only an inch or two will be possible in places like Bismarck and Sioux Falls, so impacts should be minimal. Rain may change over to snow in Chicago and Detroit over the weekend before the lake-effect snow machine gets going Monday and Tuesday. Several inches of lake-effect snow will be possible, especially along the shores of lakes Erie and Ontario. Gusty winds behind the system will also make travel difficult early next week.
